SEMINARIOS DEL IFLP y DEL DEPARTAMENTO

Martes 30 de septiembre, 11hs – AULA CHICA

TÍTULO: "A unifying theoretical framework for non-adiabatic transitions near pairs of real or complex turning points"

EXPOSITOR: Ignat V. Fialkovskyi Universidade do ABC - São Paulo - Brasil

Resumen: Turning points are encountered all around both classical and quantum physics. The real ones are common for the quantum mechanical problems (e.g., a particle in potential well). In the complex case – for wave propagation in different non-homogeneous media (radio-waves in the ionosphere of Earth, etc.), a variety of physical problems presenting these types of turning points are rather well elaborated. However, up to now there was no unifying approach which would permit treating all of them on the same footing. We will show that a wide class of problems where one of the above cases is realized can all be represented in a universal form of non-static Schrödinger equation with non-hermitian Hamiltonian of a special class. In such formulation the spectral theory of (linear) operator pencils can be used and asymptotic expansions constructed describing the solution of the equation both far away from the turning points and in their vicinity. As an example we derive the transition matrix through the close pair of simple turning points of order one, corresponding to intersection of eigenvalues.
