Installation instructions.

System requirements

To install AIRES successfully, your system must fulfill the following requirements:

• A FORTRAN 77 compiler is required. In some cases a C compiler is also needed.

• Have a minimum of 12 MB random access memory entirely available for the simulation program (200 MB in the case of the AiresQIIbeta program). Disk storage requirements are: About 10 MB working space for installation; several MB free disk space (arriving to about 80 MB in "heavy-duty" simulations) to run the program plus all the disk space needed to (eventually) store compressed output files.

• If the operating system is not UNIX, the installation will have to be done manually and probably some little adaptative work will be needed. For UNIX systems the installation is automatic.

Downloading

AIRES is distributed in a single compressed (gzip) tar file. You must download the file into your system, decompress and tar expand it. This can be conveniently done inside a scratch directory created for this purpose.

Installing

After completing the previous step, you will see that a directory whose name matches the corresponding AIRES version has been created. Enter that directory, read the file README.first and if you agree with the conditions there stated, you can continue with the installation accordingly with the guidelines placed inside the file.
